There was a Tall Oak Tree...

Much of the northern Willamette Valley is known as French Prairie, the area of Oregon that was the first to be settled by non-native people. French Prairie is now primarily farmland, pastures and fields, with trees lining the creeks and streams that crisscross the region or mark property boundaries. Every now and again, though, a lone oak tree stands silently in a field, marking its ancient birthplace.
