The Old Kinton Schoolhouse
The Kinton schoolhouse has seen better days. Built in 1908 as a single-room schoolhouse, it soon outgrew its space and had to add another room to accommodate a high school. It operated until 1940 when it was closed down. It has been abandoned ever since.
Kinton, Oregon, is a non-incorporated rural community, established in 1850 by Peter Kindt near the Tualatin River, not too far from where Peter Scholl operated his ferry. Peter Scholl was a descendant of Daniel Boone and obtained a land claim in 1847.
